Greensboro Moral Monday — June 3rd
/“Let Greensboro Go to Raleigh Together in Large
Numbers”
With deep appreciation to Rev. Dr. William Barber, President of the State Branches of the NAACP and HKonJ of which many of us are a part, a group of citizens and organizations in Greensboro have agreed to organize to send a large delegation to Raleigh to participate in non-violent civil disobedience or to observe as moral witnesses.
What is happening in our state General Assembly is a moral outrage! This cannot be allowed to happen in the dark. It is very important that we respond in large numbers. We emphasize nonviolence, as everything will be done in a respectful, nonviolent manner. Our moral duty is to shine the light on these hurtful policies and laws to help others see and understand the impact on their lives and the lives of their neighbors.
There will be a planning meeting on Thursday May 23rd, 6:30 PM, at New Light Baptist Church 1105 Willow Road to share more on the bad policies and laws being enacted and to plan the trip to Raleigh. It would be great if you could attend.
The Initial plans are: Cars, vans and possibly busses will leave New Light Baptist Church on Monday, June 3, 2013, at 1:30 PM to journey to Martin Street Baptist Church, where we will gather at 3:30. Martin Street is located at 1001 East Martin Street, in Raleigh. We will be met there by a legal team and organizers of the Moral Monday campaign, including Rev. Barber. We will be briefed and engage in a period of nonviolent training. We will pray, share a few testimonies, sing some songs, and then go together to our state’s capital.
A number of people and groups have expressed interest in going to Raleigh together. Among the groups and individual committed to Greensboro Moral Monday are Bishop Alfred "Chip" Marble and members of the Faith Leaders Council, Rev. Clarence Shuford of the Pulpit Forum, Rev. Cardes Brown of the Greensboro Branch NAACP, and Rev. Nelson Johnson of the Beloved Community Center. Everyone is invited. You need not plan to participate in civil disobedience (go to jail). That decision will be your free choice with no pressure. If you choose not to participate in civil disobedience, please still plan to come as a moral witness.
Take some time right now to think through the commitment you are prepared to make. If you cannot attend the special meeting Thursday evening at New Light Baptist Church, please email us at elenac@belovedcommunitycenter.org or call 336-230-0001 and be prepared to provide your name, e-mail or street address and a phone contact. You will be asked to respond to the following:

Moral Monday Delegation on June 3rd in Raleigh.
_____ I plan to attend as a moral witness and supporter.

_____ I plan to drive my vehicle to Raleigh and ____ others can ride with me.
